NEW YORK CITY (WPIX) – A hostess at a popular Italian restaurant on Manhattan’s Upper West Side has been attacked after asking residents outside to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination, according to the police.

It happened Thursday night at Carmine’s restaurant on Broadway and West 91st Street, officials said.

The hostess, 24, was assaulted by three Texas women after asking them to show proof of vaccination, the NYPD said.

The victim was punched several times in the face and suffered bruises and redness, police said.

According to the NYPD, the three women were charged with assault and criminal mischief. We all gave them tickets to come to the office and told them to come back in October.

Authorities have identified the suspects as Sally Lewis, 49, Kaeita Rankin, 44, and Tyonnie Rankin, 21.

“Our goal is to serve our customers excellent cuisine, provide excellent service and excellent hospitality while ensuring the safety of our employees and customers while complying with government-mandated COVID-19 protocols,” a spokesperson for Carmine’s said in a statement to the NYC Hospitality Alliance.

New York City rules require customers to show proof of vaccination at many indoor businesses, including restaurants and bars.

“It is a shocking and tragic situation when one of our valued employees is assaulted for doing their job – as city policies require – and for trying to make a living,” the restaurant said. “Our goal right now is to take care of our employee and the rest of our restaurant family. We are a family style restaurant, and this is the absolute last experience that one of our employees should have and that all customers witness.
